Ideas for “app for that” comedy sketches

While at a funeral, of all places, the idea for a series of short comedy sketches based on abuse of “there’s an app for that” popped into my head.

So the basic joke is an unlikely app that leads to the destruction or ruining of someone’s smart phone. The initial thought came about because we’d just been served tea and coffee at the funeral tea, but there were no teaspoons. Someone at the table was playing with their phone (probably me) and I pictured someone saying “No problem, I’ve got an app for that.”, bringing out his phone clicking on an app picturing a teaspoon, which promptly shows on screen, and them him dunking it into a hot cup of tea and stirring it with the phone!

Anyway, it amused me and a few other scenarios popped into my head:

No butter knife? Gets phone out, brings up picture of knife, and proceeds to stick it into a margarine tub and then smear his toast with it.

Wobbly table in a pub causing your pint to spill? Brings up picture of wedge (or folded beer mat) and sticks it under the leg of the table – cracks screen.

Or perhaps needs a beer mat? Beer mat app, puts phone down and pint on phone, with spillage onto phone/table.

I’m sure you can come up with some more. Comment below.

Update: Nov 2012. Looks like someone has the same sense of humour as me. It’s in German, but the title is all you need to know http://www.snotr.com/video/8965/
Update: Jul 2013. Not really an update, just testing some anti comment spam stuff.

Since describing my idea to colleagues, Ross suggested anything requiring a hammer – queue footage of someone smashing their phone as they try to hammer in a nail with it.

Out of toilet paper? – I won’t say any more.

So last night we had various other ideas for apps. Can’t remember who came up with what, but between myself, Craig, Pat and Douglas. The basic ideas were:
    handkerchief
    frisbee
a life saver ring – man throws phone to help drowning person
    paint brush
    sandwich filling
a cracker – puts on slice of cheese and ‘crunch’
    golf ball/tee
firework, perhaps a Katherine wheel nailed to a post

If Mitchell and Web are looking, all we’re asking for is a small acknowledgement!

Had another near real world use today. I needed to weigh something, someone (Gordon) jokingly suggested “app for that”. So you could picture some fatty (sorry big boned person) wanting to check their weigh – Gets out phone – Brings up app with a picture of scales you would stand on – Places on ground and stands on phone, with the usual hilarious consequences(!)

Might need to be a tablet rather than phone, a bit easier to stand on.

Thought of another for something a bit larger this time.

Bloke out walking his dog in the park.
Dog’s looking excitable and jumping around.
So owner gets out his iPad brings up a picture of a Frisbee and then throws the whole iPad like a Frisbee for the dog to catch!
Optionally could show the dog catching the Frisbee in its teeth and sinking them through the screen/case.

A really funny one this time, put a camera in the iPad so that people will look stupid while sitting a Wimbledon trying to take pictures with it of Andy Murray playing tennis!

Can I put a link in this comment from the “Edit Comment” feature of the dashboard.
