ILW - Holmes

A colleague and I just applied to take part in University of Edinburgh’s Innovative Learning Week! If accepted, we will prepare a workshop on formal argumentation, themed around the exploits of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. This will be an interactive event, where participants will actively use their newfound knowledge in solving a thrilling mystery. Results will be out by the 24th of November.

First Year Review, 22nd August

I am now less than a week away from my first year review and feeling good. On the 22nd of August (room 1.15 in the Informatics forum), I will present my research on Coarse Preferences. Appealing to the Cognitive Science literature, that shows how people think in terms of groups, I combine Preference Elicitation with Learning of the user’s mapping, from Outcomes to Situations. Provided a good family of mappings, the system can recommend an optimal outcome while still keeping its options open, and significant speed-ups can be achieved in the elicitation process.

A building across the forum. As envisioned on a cold midday.
