OSCC13 First Day

The OpenSimulator Community Conference 2013 opened on time today on the custom built OpenSim-based grid. Visitors from across the Hypergrid (from various home grids) converged to the initial welcome session and a panel on the past and future of OpenSim. Other attendees also watched Live Video Streams on UStream. After the introductory panel, attendees could split up to go to any of siz different breakout specialised sessions.

Between sessions, avatars could visit the open-access Expo and demonstration areas, or meet and chat in the many social areas.

The initial breakout sessions I attended included Intel speaking about their Distributed Scene Graph add-on to cope with large numbers of avatars in applications such as crowds and military simulations such as on the MOSES grid. A second breakout presentation described the browser-based PixieViewer.
