For some time new, version 3 of the True Incremental Backup System, used within the School to back up most commodity data, has been available. Things are somewhat complicated for us when it comes to upgrading TiBS because we use LCFG to configure TiBS and generate most of its configuration files. Normally, this isn’t too bad, it’s simply a matter of adding any new configuration variables to the component’s schema and rolling up new RPMs containing the server and client binaries. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case with TiBS 3 since it makes some quite some quite substantial changes to its configuration files resulting in the component needing some rewriting. We’ll talk about these changes next time.
