I’m running an exam practice session next Tuesday for students sitting the Inf1-DA resit. Some have already signed up with the ITO, and the session is also open for anyone else to just turn up. You need to prepare a little, though: follow the instructions below.

Exam results are now appearing on EUCLID, and you should see the outcome of all your courses there by the end of this week. There were 207 students sitting Inf1-DA this year: a very large proportion of the class passed, many with Grade A. These are excellent results, congratulations.

If you have questions or concerns about any of your results then contact your Personal Tutor to discuss this further.

For those who failed and will be retaking the exam, there will be a second sitting some time between Monday 8 and Friday 19 August. The exact timetable of resit examinations will be published on Monday 18 July. I’ll also run a resit preparation tutorial the week before the exam.

You may be able to take the Inf1-DA resit exam in your home country, if outside the UK. Follow the link below for more details: applications must be in soon, by Tuesday 21 June at the latest.

If you want to look at your own exam scripts, then please contact the ITO. You’ll need to say which exams you want to see, and arrange a date to view them there. You won’t be able to take these away, so remember to take a pen and paper for notes. (Or a pencil, tablet, laptop, etc.)

Individual scripts don’t have much detailed feedback on them, but you will be able to see your mark on each question which can help in working out which areas of the course you might wish to review.

Congratulations to everyone who followed through Inf1-DA this year. I understand some students were asked to leave question papers in the exam hall, while others took them away. There was no need for the invigilators to do this, although there are other courses that retain these. For everyone who left their exam paper behind but would still like to review the questions, I’m posting a copy here.

• This is not the precise PDF used in the exam, so there may be discrepancies. If you find any differences, please let me know.

I won’t write the feedback report until marking is complete. However, you are welcome to ask questions and discuss your own solutions over on the Piazza group.

The pass mark is 40%. Students scoring below this may be able to sit another exam in the August diet: contact your Personal Tutor once results are out.

I’ve posted more information about Monday’s exam to the exams web page, based on queries on the Piazza group:

• There are two exam halls, divided by surname;
• The exam is closed-book;
• Please write in blue or black ink, with pencil for diagrams;
• Bring a scientific calculator from the permitted list.

Results are published on EUCLID, usually within a week of the Board of Examiners meeting. This year that meeting is timetabled for 9 June, so you should know your results for Informatics courses by Friday 17 June. Other Schools will have different timetables.

If your examination performance on the day is seriously affected by circumstances outside your control, then tell your Personal Tutor about this as soon as possible. They can, if appropriate, help you prepare and submit a Special Circumstances case to be taken into account by the Board of Examiners. This can only be done before the Board meeting, so please don’t wait until after the results are out — that’s too late.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the revision topics poll. There was strongest interest in material from the earlier parts of the course, so I’ll pick some past questions in that area to go over in lectures.

The sheet of exercises for Tutorial 8 posted last night had some confusion about whether Question 2 was measuring sleep or exercise hours. This was my error. It’s now corrected, and there’s a revised version online in the usual place. My apologies: thanks to the student raising this on Piazza, and to Fabian for fixing this up.
