Dr Vashti Galpin received her doctorate in 1998 from the University of Edinburgh for her research in process algebras. She then lectured at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. Since 2007 she has been a researcher at the University of Edinburgh working on stochastic and hybrid process algebras for modelling both biological and human-constructed systems. Dr Galpin has developed a spatial extension to PEPA, which uses a multi-graph structure to represent locations in a general manner and has also worked with a biological process algebra with compartments. Dr Galpin is an independent researcher with a deep background in spatial stochastic process algebras.
